FAQ

Here is a collection of real questions we get asked all the time. If there is something you want to know this is where you are most likely to find it.
When are you open?
Our class timetable is always kept up to date and is available right here.
The centre is open for members and casuals to use the equipment and space from 9am til late Monday to Thursday, 9am til 12pm on Friday and from 11am til late on Sundays.
How much does it cost?
All of our membership options, casual rates, private training and class prices are available here.
That said, if you are interested in customising any kind of course, workshop, group training, demo or anything else you can think of, Avi is very approachable so just speak to him at the front desk or call him direct on 0433 747 423 and he will be happy to help you with a quote for whatever you need.
Where are you guys located?
IDF Training, the home of authentic Krav Maga in Melbourne, is located at 105 Hawthorn Road Caulfield, our all-purpose training facility for self-defence and fitness training.
The centre is across the road from the Commonwealth Bank, approximately 200 metres south of the intersection of Balaclava Rd and Hawthorn Rd (and the south-western corner of Caulfield Park).
The trams no. 3, 16 and 64 all stop at this intersection. The tram lines can be reached via Malvern, Balaclava or Caulfield Stations.
There is plenty of unmetered street parking after hours and 1 hour street parking during the day.
What do I wear?
Whatever you feel comfortable wearing for training. For most people this is a t-shirt and tracksuit pants/shorts or other gym gear.
For Krav Maga you will need a mouthguard and groin guard. If you already own these feel free to use what you have otherwise we have them for sale at the centre. All other compulsory safety equipment is provided for use during class. We have a wide range of martial arts equipment for sale at very competitive rates at the centre.
Do I have to be Jewish to do Krav Maga?
You’re kidding right? Of course not. It really doesn’t matter where you come from, where your parents come from, what football team you go for or who you vote for. We don’t care, really. As long as you want to train and learn the most effective self-defence system there is, Krav Maga is for you.
What if I am really unfit and have never done anything like this before?
It’s ok. Lots of people come to our classes with zero experience. Everyone has to start somewhere. We also have a full-time gym at the centre with membership options, casual visits, or one-on-one personal training if you want to work on your overall fitness as well.
Of course, the fitter you are the easier it is to pick up the moves but everyone is welcome and everyone is really friendly around here so even if you do feel a little weird to begin with that will disappear quickly. Just come and try it out!
Is it true that just hanging out at your club will turn my body into a deadly weapon?
Um, no.
But showing up to train hard and learn the techniques will eventually turn you into someone much more deadly and prepared, in the face of a real life attacker, than you ever would have been prior to coming and training at our club.
We are in the business of providing a whole range of correct self-defence techniques, quality equipment and top-class training for people who want to get fit, learn to defend themselves or (if it is what really sets their heart alight) turn their bodies into the ultimate fighting machine.
But just being part of the club won’t turn you into anything. The commitment you make to showing up to do the work is what will help you achieve whatever it is you want from yourself – to be fit, to feel safe or to dominate the competition. It’s really up to you; we just help you get there.
Or that hanging out with you guys will make me a violent person?
We don’t encourage people to go out and pick fights on the street to test out their new skills. The best thing you can do in a real life situation is RUN AWAY and GET THE HELL OUT OF THERE. We teach you the attitude to avoid potentially dangerous situations and the skills to survive if you do happen to get into something that you can’t escape from.
We firmly believe that the use of these techniques is for emergencies only and that willingly soliciting this sort of encounter off the mats is really freaking uncool. We think this is pretty straightforward and even the little children who come to the kids class get the difference between learning how and doing it for real on unsuspecting members of the public.
You are not Mossad and you are not in the movies… violence is really not necessary.
